I pulled it out last weekend and put your new firmware on it and messed around a bit But having to menu dive to change pattern length really slows me down. Also the rolls still feel weird I modded the monotribe with trigger outs, and have been using that or the sq-1 And using the modular and techstar for drum sounds the monotribe's arbitrary roll value per step is hard to beat about rolls: I dicked around with that some more recently smile emoticon I'm not sure which version you worked with but there were some issues. The rolls should work well now. There's an option in the global menu to 'ignore 1st roll' now that you can turn on. It might be better if you're doing more live stuff so, when I use rolls, I'm generally writing patterns, so I don't ever want to press a roll button and have it do nothing - so i designed the onset so that it always produces a sound when you press the button, but that makes it non-quantized if you press the button late, which I agree is not so good live. So there's an option to ignore that first trigger, so every trigger of the roll is on time. The drawback being that if you hit the button a little after the quantize division, and have a long roll time, there might be a bit of a wait before it actually trigs smile emoticon rolls per step.... hm. not impossible. have to think about that. I did read the whole thing about rolls and get the newest firmware, but the whole roll style is wrong for me. I need to be able to change roll division per length, and I need arbitrary non-synced divisions aside from 1/4, 1/8 1/16 what do you mean roll division per length? roll division per step, sorry on the monotribe they use the ribbon as a continuos roll controller, and as you slide your finger up it you go from quarter notes to 128th notes or something else totally glitchy and silly and it captures that per step I have never seen anything else that does that If I add roll division per step, and leave that arbitrary (ie - the number you assign to the step will be the number of 128th notes the sequencer will wait before retriggering) is that enough, or do you need it to be arbitrary on the PERF page also? oh, you lost me I might know what you mean. I dunno, I just like that with the monotribe you can do it without thinking about it. you just run your finger up the ribbon until you think "oh yeah, thats the roll" and as you do it in real time you can dial in this insane ever changing drum roll I do it on the high hats kind of obsessively on Beyond the Realms of Man and most of my tracks, actually so, on the monotribe, does it record the actual notes from the roll, or just the change in the 'roll rate' parameter? it changes the roll rate per step, 16 steps in a sequence but it comes off pretty fluid but no sound unless you are continuously triggering the roll? it becomes part of the step. if the step is on, the roll sounds ok ok let me bounce this off you smile emoticon you're recording a roll - say, you start with 1/16th notes recording it and you dial up to 128th notes and then back down to 16th notes In the monotribe, those later 16th's will be quantized, but in the LXR, they won't? this is something i've been thinking about rectifying the LXR should do the same thing, just each roll trig will be recorded discreetly. right now, the new roll rate in the LXR gets updated on the retrigger, but that's not ideal in many cases. might be better to update on quantize divisions in certain cases, but i have to have a lil think about that smile emoticon hmmm and you use active step a lot smile emoticon so the way I think about it on the monotribe is that every 16th note you get to change the number of beats in between the next 16th notes, and that works out good. constantly! I very rarely work on 4/4, and I don't usually save sequences, all live yeah, that would be pretty cool. It's doable, the trick is really where in the interface to put it, since rolls take up the step buttons in perf mode I gotcha what do you end up using with active step - I can do that on one of the shift-mode pages, but something has to give but that's probably what I'd do. make me push two buttons with my left hand and with my right I can select the last step of the pattern for example, I can do a page with active step, rolls (on the voice buttons) and pattern-change, but no mutes huh, ok or rolls on the pattern buttons but no pattern change tongue emoticon hahaha So for rolls I like being able to select one voice, then use the 16 step buttons for the roll division being able to roll on more than one voice at a time is not useful for me and for last step I'd like an option where I can change it for all the tracks at once, and a different option for per track stuff ok, I'll have a think about that. I changed a bunch of stuff in the code about how different menus are accessed, the upshot of which is that it's pretty easy to put new functions into the shift-mode pages nice! i will probably move 'patgen' to shift-step and do something like active step on shift-perf that makes sense to me patgen is neat, but not something I do all the time. did you ever make headway on extending it to the substeps? ah, that's an easy add smile emoticon I never put it in because i never use patgen. I just write stuff in via rolls. all my tracks end up with a completely stupid amount of automation smile emoticon haha, gotcha!
